The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) for 2007-13 is the next programme in a series of multi-annual Framework Programmes that have been the European Union's main instrument for funding research and development since 1984 - as provided for by the Treaty establishing the European Community (part 3, title XVIII, art. 166, pag.114).
