Launch of Forum on Philanthropy and Research Funding
Date: 04.12.2007 - 04.12.2007

Europe has set its sights on becoming a leader in innovation and research, and boasting the most dynamic, knowledge-based economy in the world by 2010. How are Europe’s foundations and philanthropy contributing to this objective? How can universities successfully fundraise from philanthropic sources to support their activities. These are just some of the questions that will be addressed on December 4th 2007 as the European Forum on Philanthropy and Research Funding is launched in Brussels.

The conference will open with a plenary session bringing together: Janez Potočnik, Member of the European Commission in charge of research, Harriet Wallberg-Henriksson, President of the Karolinska Institute, and Pier Mario Vello, Secretary General of Fondazione Cariplo, one of Italy’s leading foundations.

In addition to discussing various issues linked to philanthropic funding for research, the conference will also see the European Commission independent expert group on “Fundraising by Universities from philanthropic sources” present its conclusions and recommendations.
